Becoming a Journalist

When I was younger I never knew what I wanted to be. I was constantly changing my mind from a dancer to a singer to an actor. A journalist never came into mind. I've never cared about the money, it was always how quickly people would know my name. That's what I wanted - to become famous.
Although this was my passion all those years ago. I think secretly, I always knew I wanted to become a journalist. During my A-Levels, the only journalism related course I did was English, and that was because I liked stories. I think my teachers realised I was going down the wrong career path before I did. I was constantly asking them questions about their facts and where they got their information from, as well as finding things out to point out where their argument was flawed. They would always respond: "Becca, stop being a journalist. You're here to learn!" But I wasn't being a journalist, I was only trying to make sure that what they was telling us was backed up with facts. That's when it hit me. I did't care about becoming famous, or being an actor or any of those other careers. I just wanted to make sure people knew they were getting the truth from higher figures. Maybe they was right, maybe I was being a little journalist.
I spent my free time writing up my own personal blog (the site closed down and took all my work with it, and to this day I'm still sad about it- even though it was probably terrible!) about news and celebrities. I used it as a stepping stone to get into university. Turns out I didn't need it. But now I have a new blog that I do need, so I guess it was handy to start writing in the beginning.

Skipping ahead a few months I got the grades I needed to get into Northampton University and was so happy. I mean me, Rebecca Pritchard, was going to become a journalist. ME!!?? I mean obviously I'm going to contribute to the student aspect as well - I think I've contributed a bit too much but I'll save that story for a different post.  The people I met were different to what I was normally used to. I mean coming from London to Northampton, I'm sure you can do the maths on that yourself. All in all, One year later they're probably the most random bunch of people that has been put together but we work.
I was pretty much thrown in the deep end when I started. Everyone was almost ahead of the game and I was still at the starting line. Some knew people who worked in the industry, others have already done things for the industry. What could I really say with all of that?  "I run a blog...kinda? " Not the best impression is it. But now, I'm sure we are all at the same place - hopefully.
Training to become a journalist is probably one of the best things I've done in my 19 years of living. I've met some amazing people trying to get into the industry, some amazing people in the industry and also used some pretty cool equipment. I mean the TV studio is pretty cool too, but I'd rather shoot and edit than be on the actual telly. (Oh how my original idea changed aye?) But for now I'm still learning. I'm only in my second year but I have already worked at a newspaper so I guess I'm moving up in the world. I'll never forget the first piece of footage I had to shoot. It was terrible, I was in it! But it was a good laugh and a learning curve. I guess I can become a journalist if I try hard enough.
Take a look at the first piece to camera I ever did:

Children In Need beats 2012 record

Last nights show of Children In Need has raised a record £31,124,896 beating 2012′s total of £26 million.

For the last two days, the Great British public has joined together to watch the charity show Children in Need. It all kicked off with Thursday's night Children in Need Rocks, which was created by the one and only Gary Barlow. We saw the best of British acts perform, from Ellie Goulding to the former Abba star Agnetha Faltskog, who hasn't perfromed in 25 years. Thursday nights show attracted 4.2 million viewers on BBC One. Thursday's night show alone raised over £1,000,000 for the charity.

Friday's night show was even more spectacular as we saw performances from the Eastenders cast and super-band McBusted for the first time.
To get the ball rolling it was the dance to the death as Torvill and Dean danced their way to the trophy on the Strictly Come Dancing Children in Need special. The two competed in a 'non-competitive'  dance off which was more competitive than the actual show! With both having an outstanding performance, the judges could not fault either pair, showing the others how it's done.
We knew the Show was miraculous brothers Ylves, performed their smash hit The Fox. This years show really did make the seven and a half hours fly past as it was brilliant live family fun television. But the whole teenage nation was taken by storm when the super group was born; McBusted.

The super group took the teenagers by storm by combining their hit tracks before starting their UK tour. McFly started the rave as they were first to appear on stage just after 11pm before being  joined by James and Matt from Busted, performing Year 3000. The combination of the two bands continued to switch songs as all the members was rather nervous as it was their first performance as a super group, but successfully beating their nerves as they done the iconic Busted jump.

Twitter was the first place the teens turned to, to express their excitement for the performance and the tour in 2014. Other acts which stole the show included: JLS, One Direction and the Eastenders cast.

Free Theatre in London ?!

Everybody loves to go to the theatre, but not everybody loves to pay for a show they might or might not enjoy. However, throughout the month of August, The Scoop has been giving free shows to three condensed versions of Sophocles tragedies. Oedipus - Prince of Thieves, Oedipus Rex and Antigone.

The scoop theatre has no income what-so-ever and relies mostly on sales of programs and badges and sponsorship, despite being located in between Boris Johnson's buildings!

The cast rehearsing Prince of Thieves

The first play, Prince of thieves, is very child friendly with interaction with the audience, filled with smiles and laughs throughout the whole performance.
We follow young Oedipus's journey to become King with his loyal friends Pandora (who is played by Charlotte Whitaker) and Archie, the talking bear, who is very sarcastic and loves making puns. (Played by Joseph Wicks).
The  play itself is much like a panto as it consists of singing well know modern pop songs and children shouting out to the cast with help.

Oedipus and Antigone

However, after this child friendly performance, things become more dark as Oedipus finds out the truth about his birth and parents, making him and his daughter Antigone suffer the consequences. With both hour long productions have a much more serious and in-depth approach to the tale compared to the children show. Philip Scott-Wallace, who plays Oedipus put on a magnificent performance during this tale, which made a connection between actor and audience. With this we could feel the emotional side of Oedipus's tale.

Not only is the shows amazing, but the staff there are amazingly friendly and happy to help any way they can to ensure that their audience is having the best time they possible can.

The shows run every Wednesday to Sunday until September 1st and is completely free. So if you're in London I highly recommend viewing these performance at The Scoop Open Air Theater.

Prince of Thieves - 6pm - 7pm
Oedipus Rex- 8pm - 9pm
Antigone- 9:15pm - 10:15pm

The Scoop Theatre is located at the More London Riverside between London Bridge and Tower Bridge. SE1 2DB

TMZ were first to upload the images even though there has been allegations that the star has spat in a DJ's face in Ohio. Speaking of spitting, did i forget to mention that a woman has also pointed the finger, that the Baby star spat in her drink back in January. Back in March it was also brought up that Justin has spat in a neighbours face after an argument erupted that he was speeding in his Ferrari. But no matter what Justin does, his loyal grandparents are always on his side. Diane Dale defended her grandson by saying she felt bad about the lack of privacy Justin receives. "It's totally crazy. I feel sorry for Justin all the time because paparazzi pick on him all the time. Anybody else's kid have done the same thing but nobody says anything" she states.
Justin's Grandfather, Bruce Dale, also backs up the teen star by stating "He's just a 19-year-old by - and before you criticize him, say 'what is my 19-year old boy doing?'
"
Fans make a circle around the spit.
Many people have already taken to twitter, some laughing at the act and some fuming. Well Justin I would like to see how you cover this one up.
